Molly Kearney Announces ''Saturday Night Live'' Exit After 2 Seasons
Molly Kearney''s announcement comes just one day after Punkie Johnson also shared she''s leaving the show.
Yet another Saturday Night Live cast member is bidding adieu to the iconic sketch comedy show, and this time it''s Molly Kearney.
The 32-year-old comedian, who uses they/them pronouns, shared the news Friday in an Instagram carousel post highlighting their two-season run on the NBC show. In their caption, Kearney reflected on their time after two seasons.
"Reflecting on the amazing 2 seasons I got on this show, it was such a dream come true. So incredibly grateful for this period in my life," Kearney wrote, in part, in their caption. "So much love to all my big hearted buddies behind the scenes who make the magic happen every week. So many bald caps, so little time. It was a true honor to work with such a talented group of writers and DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE CAST. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻Special shout out to my day 1 crew @marcellohdz @internetdevon and @longfellow_michael. Head up and heart out! Harold forever!!!!!"
No word yet on why Kearney decided to walk away from the show (they were hired with much fanfare in 2022), but the announcement comes after Punkie Johnson on Thursday shared she was leaving Saturday Night Live after four seasons.
"After four seasons, I will not be returning to SNL for the 50th," Johnson said in video she posted on Instagram.
In the clip, she explained how she first unintentionally broke the news to an audience at a stand-up comedy show at Brooklyn''s Union Hall on Wednesday, at which fellow SNL cast members Kearney, Devon Walker and Michael Longfellow were also on the lineup. When Johnson took an audience question about what she was looking forward to most in the next season of SNL, she didn''t want to lie, so she answered, "Oh, I ain''t coming back."
And for the record, Johnson said her exit didn''t come acrimoniously.
"It''s no bad blood, it''s no bridges burned, it''s no hard feelings," she said. "Bro, I love my people! I didn’t think none of this was going to be a big deal."
The highly anticipated 50th season of SNL premieres Sept. 28.
