A Britney Spears Biopic Is Coming: Everything to Know
Jon M. Chu will direct the ''Woman in Me'' adaptation about Britney Spears'' life, with Marc Webb also on board to produce.
A Britney Spears biopic is coming to the big screen.
It was announced on Thursday that Universal Pictures has landed the rights to Spears'' bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me, in what it is describing as a "highly competitive auction." Acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Wicked, Crazy Rich Asians) is set to direct.
The GRAMMY winner''s memoir was released last October and has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the United States alone. In the book, Spears chronicles her trajectory to pop superstardom, from her time in The Mickey Mouse Club through her highly publicized and scrutinized conservatorship case, which caused a rift between the "Toxic" singer and her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, mother Lynne Spears and father Jamie Spears. The audiobook form, in which Michelle Williams serves as the narrator, was the most listened to audiobook on Spotify in 2023.
Producing the project is Marc Platt (Wicked, La La Land). Spears is especially excited to be working with Platt, whose TV shows and stage productions have earned a combined 46 Oscar nominations, 48 Emmy nominations and 36 Tony nominations.
Spears shared the news of her "secret project" on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. She tweeted, "Excited to share with my fans that I''ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned🌹🎥."
Here''s what we know so far about the biopic ahead of its release.

Who''s in the cast?
Actors have yet to be cast for the biopic. But it was announced that Jon M. Chu will direct while Marc Webb will produce.
What is the biopic about?
