Rob Lowe, known for his role in The West Wing, humorously suggested he should be Kamala Harris’ running mate in a sketch on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During Jimmy Fallon’s monologue, Lowe’s voice interrupted, offering to alleviate Harris’ campaign stress by being her running mate. Fallon reminded him that political roles are not cast like Hollywood roles, to which Lowe responded, “I know how it works, Jimmy. I was in The West Wing.”

It”s true that Rob Lowe was on The West Wing but now he really wants to be in the West Wing.

The 60-year-old actor hilariously threw his hat in the ring to be Kamala Harris” running mate in a sketch on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy Fallon was in the middle of his monologue broaching the subject that Harris is some less than two weeks from naming her running mate, which would mark the fastest running mate search in modern history.

Just then, Lowe”s voice can be heard out of the blue and he reluctantly agrees to be Harris” running mate, in an effort to alleviate the Harris campaign”s stress. But as Fallon reminded him, that”s not exactly how it works, especially when it comes to someone in Hollywood whose White House experience comes from a set.

“I get that but I”m really past the stage in my career where I audition for things,” Lowe quipped.

He added, “I know how it works, Jimmy. I was in The West Wing.”

Lowe relents and says he”ll audition “for the role of Vice President of the United States.”

“America, I”m not like the others. There”s no greater outsider than the person who starred in The Outsiders,” Lowe”s hilarious pitch began and set to patriotic music courtesy of The Roots. “I can adapt to any situation. I can be comedic like in Tommy Boy. Dramatic like in St. Elmo”s Fire. Or stop a nuclear threat like in Atomic Train. So, remember, when they go high, we go ”low.” Spelled with an E.”

Lowe, of course, starred in NBC”s political hit drama as deputy communications director Sam Seaborn during the show”s first four seasons. Lowe”s character later runs for Congress. The West Wing, created by Aaron Sorkin, also starred Martin Sheen as President Jed Bartlet, John Spencer as chief of staff Leo McGarry, Bradley Whitford as deputy chief of staff Josh Lyman, Richard Schiff as communications director Toby Zielger, Allison Janey as press secretary C.J. Cregg and Dulé Hill as personal aide to the president Charlie Young.

Vice President Harris is the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, after President Joe Biden bowed out of the 2024 presidential race over the weekend. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshar, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona are among those Harris is reportedly considering to be her running mate.
