The financial year 2023-2024 marked William’s first complete year in his new role following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, which led to Charles ascending to the throne. Alongside inheriting the Duke of Cornwall title and the Duchy of Cornwall estate, William was also named the Patron of the Football Association, a position previously held by his grandmother. The Duchy of Cornwall, established in 1337, provides funds for the heir to the throne and currently supports William, Kate Middleton, and their three children.

The 2023-2024 financial year was William”s first full year in the new role after Queen Elizabeth II”s September 2022 death led to Charles, 75, ascending to the throne. Charles had waited more than 70 years to become the king during his mother”s reign. Along with the Duke of Cornwall title and the Duchy of Cornwall estate, William was named the Patron of the Football Association, a position previously held by his grandmother.

The Duchy of Cornwall was established in 1337 by King Edward III and is used to provide funds for the heir to the throne. Currently, it serves William, Kate Middleton and the couple”s three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.  Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – Mark Cuthbert/UK Press via Getty Images

The fund covers William, Kate, 42, and their kids” “official, charitable and private activities” and the estate is made up of “livestock farms, residential and commercial properties, as well as forests, rivers, quarries, and coastline” spanning more than 135,000 acres of land.

After subtracting household expenses for his family, the next in line to the throne is believed to pay income taxes on the money from the estate. The report comes after a string of public appearances by William in recent weeks, including a father-son day out with George at the Euro Final match in Berlin, Germany last week and a trip to Taylor Swift”s Eras Tour show in London.

William has been pulling triple duty as a dad, working royal and a doting husband after Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis in March. The pair have kept her health updates under wraps, but she has recently been returning to public outings, even taking Charlotte to Wimbledon recently.

Prior to the Wimbledon stop, Kate marked her official return to the world in June as she attended Trooping the Colour. The appearance was reportedly a one-off, however, as the return to the spotlight took a lot out of her.

ET spoke with royal expert Katie Nicholl about how the public display affected Kate and she shared that it was a difficult event. “The princess has this sort of swan-like quality about her — she”s sort of gliding on the surface — but beneath the water, I think often she”s paddling quite frantically,” Nicholl shared. “I can only imagine that a huge amount of preparation and time and effort and energy will have gone into Saturday”s appearance.” Princess Charlotte and Kate Middleton at Wimbledon on July 14 – Karwai Tang/WireImage

“She was on her feet for a long period of time,” she continued. “There was a moment where she was watching the parade… and was offered a seat, which she gratefully accepted. That”s just a bit of an acknowledgment that she is not as strong, not as fit, as she was before she went into this treatment.”
